Fair Ride

Canon 70-200 f/4. This is a photo from my University's Spring Fair back in April. I guess it's a rather unusual photo for this blog because there's actually a human being in the frame! I'm posting it now mainly because it brings back fond memories of spring weather. :)

Are any Baltimore Photobloggers going to the State Fair?

From a photo shoot in April. A friend gave us the privilege of photographing her before she had her baby. (See VisuallyMinded and LuminousLens for similar images.)

Remembering Lazy Summer Evenings

fellspoint2.jpg

Though the work never seems to end, I'm past the latest hump. And the best part about that is it means I can get back to photography. Yay!

I don't have any new images to post today, though. Browsing through some of the more skilled indoor images at Usefilm has made me realize how little I know about light. This is rather embarassing, considering I had the nerve to name this blog "chiaroscuro." So, today I started reading a book about lighting in the hopes of making my still lifes not suck.

In the meantime, I've dipped into the archives to find this scene of a stranger enjoying a summer evening in Fells Point. I cropped this picture considerably. My original composition included more of the scene, but I think it left the subject too small. If you have an opinion, please let me know what you think.

Rainy Days

Rainy Days

This guy's bright green umbrella caught my eye on a rainy day. No PS work on the umbrella, but I did desaturate the pavement to create more contrast and emphasize its color. I also have a slightly different version here, and would appreciate hearing which composition you think works better.

Morning Coffee

Playing with silhouettes, and exploiting the fact that I look better under dark and blurry circumstances.

Old Town, San Diego

I'd really like to take more pictures of people on the street, but as a shy person, I'm usually pretty hesitant about approaching them. However, the few times I've worked up the nerve to ask someone if I can take their picture, they've been happy to let me do it. Of course, I've mostly approached street performers, who are probably natural exhibitionists. But hey, it's a start...
