Crown

A softer presentation of yesterday's subject. This is more of a typical flower shot, but I just like how it makes me feel. Gerber daisies are becoming one of my favorite flowers. There's just something so cheery about them. I like how they seem simple and unpretentious. Plus, I'm grateful because this batch of them brought me out of my recent no-photography slump.

Both daisies photos work really well. In this one the narrow depth of field transforms the image and gives it a tridimensional shape. Using a narrow DOF on a macro is always a dangerous solution, because one risks to blur details that need to be in focus, causing a terrible "crossed eyes" syndrome. In this case, however, it works well, and the blurred back of the flower "is still there" to complement the exquisite details of these fron petal. The high key style of the other photo is also very graphically appealing.

Quite a many flower filled screens as I do my photoblog surf of late.
Yet this one and the day's before are different for different reasons. I am biased as the petals are very close to my favourite hue of orangey peach.
This one feels like the petals are swimming something madness trying to escape the stem of the flower.
They do escape, they're here on my computer monitor in San Francisco.
yay.

Another great one, more abstract. I prefer the former though, because the stronger presence of shadows.

I absolutely love your images. I was looking for a desktop background photo of a gerber daisy and came across your site. I also love the clean lines of this flower and it just denotes happiness to me. Keep up the good work.
