Metro

Yesterday I took the train into D.C. for dinner with Visual Field at Ten Penh (photo). Whenever I find myself in D.C. with a camera, I can't resist taking subway shots, because I love the hive-like structure of the underground tunnels. I haven't decided whether I prefer the horizontal framing in the picture above, or the vertical framing in this alternate shot. Do you have a preference?

This is a brilliant photograph. The symmetry is near-perfect and the station looks clean and futuristic...

this one. for sure.

I prefer the horizontal version, for its symmetry. And for its light.

Definately the landscape orientation for me, but then I am a 100% widescreen nut, so my opinion is biased.
It is an awesome shoy anyhoo.

Actually i like both, but the symmetry makes the first photo a better shot, anyhow, the other one's perspective gives it a nice and intriguing look. I've also been there! last year, their metro is really pretty, but personally... i preffers nyc's subway...

cool perspective. i like the dramatic lighting and symmetry. looks very futuristic. (and so clean looking for a train station.)

There is interesting that those balconies are over the rails, I've never seen that before.
Great shot, I like the lines and the images on the roof.
Regards ;)

Splendid. I really like the diffents lights: between the trains, on the ceiling down the center, on the ceiling from left to right. Great shot.

Very good shot! Horizontal works for me.

The symmetrical, horizontal one.

Horizontal, for sure. I really like this shot--so clean! I really am a sucker for city stuff, too, which helps. ^_^ Great job!

This landscape shot; hands down. The symmetry is spectacular, as are the complementary colors of mauve and champagne silver. But it is the longshot of the dual trains that draws one into the picture and does NOT let go! Brava.

This one hands down. Great symmetry and depth, and I the colours clearly work a lot better too. I've always really enjoyed subway photos.

Definitely the horizontal, or landscape. The format is much more appealling when you are displaying a scene of this type. IMOH, vertical, or portrait, should only be used for people or to highlight something in particular such as a tree, if I may be so simplistic. I don't know how you dit it technically, but you have succeeded marvelously in rendering the scene with an iridiscent quality that is very eye catching.
Warm regards,
John

I understand that you can't resist taking shots like this. Me I travel into others towns only to search for a subway to take photographs from ;-)
From yours I prefere the horizontal one.

I like both shots, but I think the landscape is the better photo. The symmetry and lines of perspective really draw your eye into it. Having ridden the DC subways many times, I know it's actually darker in there than what your photo indicates. Did you lighten the photos in Photoshop, or use a longer exposure, or what?
