Chopsticks II

Canon 300D, Tamron 90mm macro, f/3.2, 1/60 sec. I wonder whether you have a preference between this version and one I posted a while ago?
This entry marks the end of my utensils series, I promise. In case you're wondering why I've been taking so many utensils lately, it was a theme assignment from a photo club I belong to with some friends (including Visual Field, ViSuaLLyMiNDeD, and LuminousLens.) Our next theme assignment is "water," so you can expect some water shots soon. :)

nice, this is lovely. however, i liked your earlier entry better. the composition was stronger in that one in my opinion. just personal preference.
oh, and can i enter my "wine and water" shot for the water assignment? :-) just joking.

Hmm. This is nice, but I like the previous one better as well -- something about the strong perpendicular lines in the first one. I like the detail of the texture in both, however.

I love the colors and symmetry in this pic. Superb!

I too prefer the previous one, although this one is nice as well.
Can't wait to see your water photos.

I like this one, but I also prefer the previous version. The DoF is a bit more distracting in today's shot.

I think this one is far more interesting, because of the selective focus the DoF creates. It adds depth to the shot. I like depth, depth is our friend.

Love the choice of colors and the DOF is perfect.

This photo is perfect. Great DoF and great colors/texture. You nailed this one for sure.
I wish I lived somewhere where I could join a photo club, that sounds really interesting.

What joy to scroll down through your portfolio. Always unique, new and different!

This is definitely the one for me. I agree with Rainking about the depth created by the DoF; this gives the photo much more texture and dimension IMO. The diagonal composition makes this a more interesting shot for me.

I think I like the first one for its straighter angle that plays up the lines and textures.
Though, if I hadn't seen that one first, I'd not know the difference, because today's is a lovely shot as well. The fabric they're made of is wonderful, and you've captured it beautifully.

I like the first one better too, the focus and angle are more interesting I think, but this is also an excellent picture.

great image here. brilliant color and texture. i loved the utensil series. (did i see a spatula in there?..i don't think so). you need a bamboo mat to go with the chopsticks. very nice

You have a terrific eye for lines. Really nice photo, shows the texture well :-)

Una gran bella foto. Adoro il tuo stile.

One word: beautiful. More words: This is just stunning. The contrast and saturation of colors, the composition, the way you play with lines. Very nice!

I know I told you in person, but I think I'll try to explain. This one, imho, is far superior to the previous. The diagnol lines are more dynamic, and in the previous one they were not quite vertical. Here the chopsticks take up the whole frame, no background is visible which I like. The DoF is wonderful. Also in the previous the top seemed 'heavy' but here, because of the angle, everything seems balanced and wonderful! (or maybe it's just my obsession with order;-)

I do like that narrow slice of focus. Nice DOF. Also, the colors and textures are all equally soft and interesting. Nice shot.
Posted by: matt at February 13, 2005 12:27 PM
This is definitely a more interesting perspective. The narrow depth is good as it tends to select the "green" chopsticks but is not perfect because due to the inclination of the camera also select part of the previous and following ones, in a strange diagonal way. Not sure it that can be cured with a parallel orientation of the camera, and then a diagonal crop, but in any case I like it even as it is.
