Glass Tulip

glasstulip.jpg

I've kind of been in a creative rut, so bear with me for another glass shot. I wanted to do something with these colors and shapes, which kind of remind me of tulips (in a rather abstract way). Oh, how I miss spring! Also, because stuart complained that there was no actual wine in my "study in scarlet" shot, I poured some vouvray in this glass. :)

What I like about this shot, is that like your 2004 portfolio, you seem to be able to remove a dimension and present such flat images with little depth. I don't know how you do it but it really works and you have developed a style that is different from anything else.

That's beautiful. The colors and composition are perfect. Where is the light source? Behind the glass?

what i like about this shot is that you can drink your subject after youre done with it, which is not what you can normally do with, trees and buildings for instance.
seriously though, what a great shot! i thought for a while how you had achived this illusion, but then I tried it out and i see how you did it. brilliant. i thinking the lighting is just perfect and that makes the shot here in my opinnion. nice one.

I think I've worked out how you calculated your lighting on this shot :-)

It a great shot and once again your talent shines!

When I look at it again, I think of court jesters and merriment!

Great shot, as always. Nice soft colors and great symmetry. Very creative.

In response to the question about lighting and set-up, I placed sheets of translucent scrapbook paper several inches behind the glass. These sheets were lit from behind using a desklamp with a small, bright bulb. The rest of the room was otherwise dark to prevent reflections on the glass. The main challenge was having the patience to nudge the camera to the left and to the right until the refraction appeared this way. Also, I had to use a very small aperture (f/32) in order to get both the glass and the background into focus with my 90mm macro lens.

This image is amazing, I was stunned by the simplicity of its geometrical proportions you where able to get. This is what I call taking advantage of an unfavorable situation (crappy weather outside).

Your setup is really ingenious, as you captured very well the textures of the background even in the reflected image in the glass. Please MORE of this!

Fantastic symmetry! I especially like the stem of the glass.

Fantastic! Someone submitted something like this over at fujimugs (http://www.fujimugs.com/challenge/show_entry.php?entry=1780&challenge=20#entry)
but I like the duality of your colors. I shall try this out tomorrow!

I know nothing about still photography but I really like this one. the play of these two colors is appealing.

OMG, I have to try this! :) The lighting is just perfect. So elegant! You've nailed the refraction too. Just fantastic!

Great shot! Love the inversion of the pattern and the slight highlight in the gold side. Would make a cool poster!

This photo seems very Alice-in-Wonderland to me somehow. I think it's my favorite so far, if nothing else because of the clever setup :)

I really love this. I MUST try it.
