Birth of a Blog
Today is my birthday...and also the birthday of Chiaroscuro. This new photoblog is my desperate attempt to take my mind off of unpleasant things, such as politics and my dissertation.
With election night getting closer and closer, when I'm not working on school related stuff (or even when I ought to be working on school related stuff), I'm fixated on political news. The polls, to my dismay, seem to show Kerry gradually slipping. For the past few nights, I've actually been having politically themed nightmares. In some of these, I'm having futile and frustrating arguments with people about who should be president, and in others I'm faced with bizarre election scenarios like Nixon vs. Bush.
I think I'm starting to lose it...I think I need to work on my hobbies.
I'll start by posting a mix of the old and the new. I have a ton of pictures I've taken in the past few months that I haven't had a chance to wade through yet. But I also want to start taking new pictures again. My camera has been sitting on the shelf getting dusty since the semester began.
Here's a bit of the old...A collage of a few shots I took in Sydney this summer:

Happy Birthday to you and your new photoblog!
Coincidence... I have also just started a photoblog on baltiblogs and I also use it as a way to keep my mind off of things like my dissertation. (It is not, however my birthday, and I went to Sydney two summers ago, not this past summer.)
Hope you enjoy the new blog. (It really is a fabulous way to procrastinate.) I'm looking forward to seeing more of your pictures!

Great work. Keep it up; photoblogging is a great way to kick your own ass into making again. I like the galleria shot.

Congratulations on your big day and good luck with your new blog. The one-photo-a-day that many people pursue seems has at least made me take some shots and motivates to take more picutres. So good luck. :)

Great shots! Congratulations on your new blog. I know what you mean about the election... it's frightening to think we'll have four more years of this hideous version of America.
